About IAP

Institute for Active Psychotherapy (IAP) was founded in 1982 and builds on a professional collaboration that began as early as 1971. A group of psychologists and psychiatrists sought to acquire and further develop ways of understanding and working methods suited to a broad range of psychological and psychosocial difficulties.

This professional collaboration laid the foundation for the establishment of IAP in 1982, with the aim of contributing to professional development and providing further and continuing education for psychologists and other healthcare professionals. Since 1985, IAP has offered specialist training programmes in psychology, and since 2000, it has been a membership organisation.

IAP is both an institute and a membership organisation, with the aim of developing, further developing and disseminating theories, ways of thinking and working methods that are relevant to a broad range of issues and professional challenges within clinical and organisational change work. At the same time, we seek to promote a critical and knowledge-based debate about the work and role of psychologists in the society and times we live in.

Throughout our history, we have often challenged prevailing professional assumptions, inspired by philosophical perspectives such as phenomenology, humanism and existentialism.

IAP's compulsory and elective programmes
  • Child and Adolescent Psychology (compulsory)
  • Adult Psychology (compulsory)
  • Family Psychology and Systemic Psychological Practice (compulsory)
  • Organisational Psychology (compulsory)
  • Group Therapy (elective) 
  • Clinical Health Psychology (elective)

All programmes combine in-depth professional training with group supervision, and emphasise the development of the participants' professional identity as psychologists within a learning-oriented and inclusive professional community. The programmes are approved by the Norwegian Psychological Association.

 

IAP also offers professional development and community across a range of areas
  • IAP Salong – inspirational talks and social gatherings. 
  • IAP Leadership Forum – a professional network for psychologists with personnel management responsibilities.
  • IAP Annual Meeting – professional development combined with social activities.
  • Supervisor Seminar – for IAP supervisors, held every other year.
